Crumb Club
Crumb Club is a contemporary artisanal bakery proposition built around small-batch, decadent cookies shipped directly to consumers. The digital experience was designed to solve the primary hurdle in direct-to-consumer food commerce: translating rich, textural food appeal into immediate purchasing action. By pairing tactile editorial typography with an interactive, real-time box builder on the homepage, the storefront turns casual browsing into custom pack creation.

The challenge
Direct-to-consumer bakery brands frequently fall into one of two patterns: either standard, grid-based Shopify templates that flatten product appeal, or overly gimmicky landing pages that make selecting and bundling items cumbersome. For an artisanal brand offering multi-pack boxes, requiring customers to navigate across separate catalog pages introduces friction that drains checkout momentum.
The design challenge centered on combining high-appetite visual storytelling with a rapid-order mechanism. The digital experience needed to communicate the craft behind 36-hour dough aging and French butter while ensuring the primary commercial mechanism, building a custom 4, 8, or 12-pack box, could be configured without leaving the initial landing view.
The approach
The visual system pairs high-contrast, macro food photography with an editorial headline serif, immediately establishing the physical indulgence of the product. Clean neutral containers, punctuated by vibrant punchy accents, frame the food without overwhelming the screen.
Strategic emphasis was placed on the "Build Your Cookie Box" interactive module. Instead of burying box configuration inside nested product pages, the builder occupies a central section on the homepage. Customers select their pack size, see their custom box populate in real time with visual thumbnail representations of each cookie, and monitor their order total directly beside the flavour selector.
Below the fold, limited-edition seasonal drops are highlighted with live countdown mechanisms to drive urgency, followed by the founder’s story and third-party customer reviews to anchor authenticity and social proof before the checkout stage.
The outcome
The resulting storefront serves as an intentional balance of editorial culinary identity and structured direct-to-consumer functionality. By placing the custom box selector directly into the narrative flow of the homepage, the customer journey from appetite stimulation to cart addition is condensed into a single fluid interaction. The digital presence establishes Crumb Club as an unmistakable artisanal player while giving consumers an intuitive, transparent tool to build, customize, and purchase their orders.
"A food website shouldn't just show the product; it should make the ordering process feel as satisfying as opening the box."
